What's the difference between a transfer switch and an interlock kit?
A transfer switch dedicates specific circuits (lights, heat, fridge, etc.) to generator power and disconnects them from the utility automatically. An interlock kit is a simpler mechanical device on your main panel that prevents the generator and utility from feeding power simultaneously — it's less expensive but requires more manual intervention. We'll help you choose based on your generator type and budget.
Can I connect my portable generator to my house?
Yes — through a proper generator inlet box and transfer switch or interlock kit. Never connect a generator directly to an outlet (backfeeding) — it's illegal, can damage your generator, and can kill utility lineworkers. We install the right inlet and switching equipment to do this safely and legally.
Does generator installation require a permit in Washington?
Yes. Both the electrical connection and sometimes the generator pad placement require permits in Washington. We handle all permit paperwork and schedule the final inspection.
